Idea for exhibition
A series of art works
Since fashion is a rather artistic aspect of the war we decided that portraying it in an artistic way would do it justice. Therefore we will be creating art works on three canvases, to display the progression of fashion throughout the years and how World War 1 made such a large impact on it on these canvases there will be painted the outfits on a mannequin as to not draw attention away from the clothing with facial features and such. for each can vases there will be a display board and surrounding the canvas will be the diary entries that we will create as well as the existing ones that we will find as well as photographs of women in action as the role that they are dressed as so different variations of the outfits can be seen and can be seen in the situation that they were worn.
Before WarOn this display board there will be a painting of the average maid's uniform before the war started when women were still doing simple household jobs. There will also be some photographs of maids in the years working up to the war as to show the contrasts between the next board a little more. Finally there will also be the diary we have created from the point of Lillian Groves before the war began discussing her daily life as a maid.

Change During WarThis display board will be made up of the art work of the outfit Lillian now has to wear that war has begun and she has taken her place as a munition worker. There will also be the photographs just like the ones used on the previous display board of actual munition workers in the factories doing their jobs. Once again their will be a diary entry that we have written from the position of Lillian Groves while the war was on going and she was working in the factory.
|
Results After WarOn the final display board there will be all of the same stuff there was before but relating it to after the war. So, there will be a painting of the uniform for the occupation that Lillian Groves took on after the war which was an airforce pilot. There will be the images of female airforce pilots from this time and there will also be the diary entry of Lillian from her perspective post war.

How will History be incorporated into this piece?
the historical aspect of this project will be shown in this art work display through the actual progression of fashion over time, for obviously these outfits will be gathered from historical information and will be made as accurate as possible. History can also be shown through the diary entries that we will create for in these diary entries we will be writing from the perspective of a women working in Britain at the home front and her progression from being a simple maid to becoming a munition worker in a factory. This will show how quickly women in this time had to take up the work of the missing men and how they personally reacted, we will strive to make this historically accurate also for we will first look at existing diary entries that we can find on the internet or elsewhere to gather inspiration on how the women actually felt about these changes and how they actually reacted.
How will English be incorporated into this piece?
English will be shown through this display by the diary entries of the past that we are able to find, as well as the diary entries we have created ourselves after gathering information from existing diary entries from this time period that we have found. This will involve three pieces of creative writing one from before the war, one from during the war and one from after. We will write these diary entries from the perspective of Lillian Groves a fictional character that we have created ourselves to represent the average women operating on the home front.
