Welcome to our project
brief summary of what we will be doing
With this project we have been given the task of choosing a specific topic within the broad spectrum of WWI that we would like to focus on and then gathering a group of people that all share an interest in this chosen topic. Our group is made up of three people; Alice Simpson, Katy Seldis and Millie Scarborough, the topic in which we all found an interest is the working women of world war one and in more particular the fashion of the working women in World War One once they became involved.
Why this aspect of the war interests us in particular
Within our group when brain stroming and considering all of the aspects of the First World War that we could choose to focus this project on, we wanted to do something not so common and quite original. Therefore instead of focusing on the life of the soldiers and life on the front we decided to look more in-depth at the home front and what the women who remained at home contributed to the war and how this changed them as people. Even more specifically than this we have chosen to look at how what the women contributed developed their clothing throughout the war and to do this we will be comparing the styles of clothing worn by women before after and during the war.
What makes our project special
We believe our project to be rather individual for we personally have never seen or read much about the women of WWI and hardly anything about the women's fashion of WWI. this is because people tend to focus on the obvious impacts of the war; the fighting and the soldier but what they do not consider is how the women survived in the home front without their men to do all the dirty work.
How this project relates to both history and English
Seeing as this is an interdisciplinary unit this project will be tying History and English together and portraying aspects of both of these subjects through our selected topic. The history will be shown through the information that we discover and the way that we show how fashion transformed over the years, before, during and after the war. The English will then be incorporated through the diary entries will create after taking inspiration from existing diary entries that we can find on the internet or else where.
